Let me start by describing the most important tricks for new travelers. Then I will discuss the trick that very few people use.
There are some key points to remember when booking cheap flights: make sure you book your flight at least two months in advance. Avoid flights that do not include a weekend as these are considered business flights, and will result in higher prices.
Others include not traveling on dates that are close to major holidays, and not booking in the days or weeks before main holiday periods. You will find the best deals if you book after these holidays. Avoid flying between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM as this is considered business hours. You will be charged more.
Finally, the basic trick is that a round trip booking will always be less expensive than one-way flights, and that direct flights will usually be more costly than indirect flights, unless there are huge taxes at the airports.
Let me now get on to the good stuff. Have you ever booked a flight only to find out that the price has dropped suddenly and you feel stupid for having done so? Another question: How many times have you checked the price of your flight after booking it?
The first thing probably happened to most people reading this, even if they don’t know the answer. However, the answer to the second question is generally a “No”. Many times, including myself, we don’t check these rates because we fear feeling foolish when we discover that the ticket was cheaper. We like to forget about it.
Is that the end of the story? It shouldn’t! You can always check the fares periodically if you need a recommendation. You can call the airline directly to explain the situation if they lower the price or increase the amount. You should tell them that you were not told of the possibility of this flight at a cheaper price and that it would be unfair to make you travel under these conditions.
They will almost always refund the difference in price. All those who don’t check the rates make huge profits for airlines. Sometimes, you may be able to get a complimentary voucher for future tickets if you politely request it.
Keep in mind, no matter what you do, that even though it may seem very common, it is not something you should fear. Sometimes, it can even have a fair side to you, even if you don’t believe so. It is worth asking. It is possible for something terrible to happen. As everyone knows, it is best to just stay the same.
