ADVERTISING

It’s the last year. We will be welcoming in 2022 in a few weeks. Looking back at 2021, there was so much that happened. Some things have changed while others have remained the same. As a leader and business owner, one thing I notice is that outdated management practices have remained the same. Many business owners and managers still use management methods from the 1970’s. They believe they are doing the right things, despite the fact that their business isn’t growing and their employees are improving. Your leadership must be transformed if you want your employees to improve and your business to grow. These are some ways to get rid of the outdated management methods that have been limiting your success.

5 Outdated Management Strategies and 5 Up-to-Date Solutions

1. Management Visibility – Managers cannot simply walk around an office and pretend that they are visible.

Solution: Leadership involvement. Managers must be involved in listening, engaging, communicating, and putting employees’ feedback into action.

2. Decisions are driven by the Balance Sheet – it cannot be the only source of information for planning and decisions

Solution: Customer loyalty is the key to business success. Concentrate on your employees.

3. Job Competency is essential – It isn’t enough to have employees that do enough to make ends meet. It is no longer acceptable to accept the status quo.

Solution: Recruit “A” players. The best players are available if you’re willing to search.

4. Invest in Technology to Improve Productivity – Technology is an important tool that can help improve productivity in certain areas, but it is not the only solution.

Solution: Invest in your people to increase productivity. Your people might have the best ideas to improve technology. Your most important strategy should be to focus on people.

5. Incentives are a way to make more money and get more work. This approach is outdated. Incentives last a short time and don’t work right away. You won’t get more work if you have more money.

Solution: Rewards. Being valued is more important than being paid. This is what employees want, to feel valued for their work. Recognizing employees for their contributions has a lasting effect and motivates them to do more. The same effect will not be achieved with money.

Make leadership transformation a part of your New Year’s resolutions. Change these old practices to modern ones and you will see changes. Happy New Year!
