Four leadership activities are the most effective. These activities are often put off by leaders because they have other priorities. However, if these four things were prioritized they would feel less stressed and happier and be more successful.
You are likely thinking ahead to the four activities. Perhaps you believe it is planning, prioritizing and time management. Or maybe delegation. These are all essential leadership activities. These activities are often not a priority for leaders because they don’t always yield immediate results. These activities can be an investment in the future.
These are the four activities that will produce the best results over the long-term.
#1- Consistent and daily focus on people development. Leaders who are focused on people development tend to have positive expectations for their team members. Leaders who are passionate about helping others succeed, grow, and learn have a passion for people development. A leader who is committed to people development inspires others.
Result – A loyal and committed team
#2- Provide regular and consistent feedback to their boss, coworkers, and team members. Rypple.com research shows that employees feel more motivated when they are given consistent feedback. Feedback is more important than criticism. And there’s always a better way. Giving feedback is a key ingredient in activity 1, people development. Leaders who provide feedback that focuses on helping others improve their abilities have loyal teams and are willing to learn from and grow.
The result is a group of people who are open to taking initiative
#3- Recognize and reward creativity and innovation. Leaders who reward ideas and encourage innovation increase creativity within the team. A great leader is not afraid to make mistakes in the pursuit of innovation. Great leaders see all attempts at creativity as learning opportunities. According to the US Conference Board, employees want to be creative and feel like they are contributing to the world.
This results in increased industry competitiveness and customer satisfaction
#4- Asking yourself ‘higher mind questions’ on a regular basis. What is a higher-mind question? Questions such as “How can this employee be motivated to improve their output?” Or “What can you do to motivate the team to achieve higher performance on this project?” Great leaders invest time in higher level mind questions. They don’t waste time on lower mind issues like “Why does he/she do this?” Or “Why me?” What’s the difference? Leaders with higher-level questions are more creative and have more energy.
